Believe. When I think of the word, my mind goes back to Christmas and my childhood, believing in Santa Claus. Be good or Santa Claus won’t leave you any presents. I remember going to bed one Christmas Eve fearing that I hadn’t been “good enough” that year. I wondered if Santa noticed. “I believe, I believe.” Surely if Santa knows I believe in him he will leave me presents and overlook the fact I was not quite as good as I could have been. We just want to believe in something from the moment we are born. We want to believe in fairies, believe in dragons, and believe a handsome prince is going to swoop in and save us from “this”! Whatever this happens to be…. Who will save us? Our parents? Santa? Prince Charming? Who will finally come and make it all better? We sing songs “Do you believe in love?” Yes, yes, I believe, I believe! I’ll click my feet together, and whisper the words, “There’s no place like home….”
There is desire for God inside us, a desperate longing to know Him, and we want to believe. Believe in love, believe in the unbelievable, and believe there is more to this life than we see with our human eyes. We want to be saved and somehow we know can’t save ourselves! The bible tells us Abraham believed God. God declared him righteous because he believed. Not because he was good, but because he believed. Believe. I don’t have to be worry about being “good enough” or lay awake thinking I could have done more. Jesus has come to fight for us, save us and steal us away! Just Believe.
